Club Parra

Club Parra

I didn’t quite know quite what I was getting myself into. Now I feel like I could give a lecture on installing murals like this 🤣🤣 – here is my process.

I was pretty nervous to do this mural mainly because it was for a corporate client and because the club was going to be open during install (hello onlookers!). Nerves do great things to me – they freak me out completely and make me plan meticulously. The plan for this guy went like this:

  1. Research landmarks / symbols / quotes from the past and present of Parramatta

  2. Draw these individually with trusty Artline 0.4 pen

  3. Scan them into Adobe Illustrator

  4. Layer them, make the whole scene on Adobe Illustrator and map them out to scale (I got given wall / stair dimensions from the client)

  5. Send this to client to be approved

  6. Print artwork to actual size (This is where the wonderful Emma Rowland came in. She taught me this whole new method called ‘Pouncing’. This is basically where you transfer the artwork on to another surface).

  7. Use the the electric pounce machine over all the line work to create little holes in the paper.

  8. Stick that paper carefully to the wall.

  9. Use a chalk pounce pad, and pad over the paper (this leaves little chalk lines all over the wall)

  10. Grab a posca pen, grab a team and trace!

  11. Blow / wipe the chalk off (this came off much more easily than I had expected!

  12. Voila! Ridiculously detailed mural, exactly has your client approved is now on display
